About Us

We are a small village school with 70 pupils on roll. Pupils attend our school from surrounding villages as well as Grantham itself. The children are divided into 2 class groups – Infants and Juniors – and they work with 2 full time teachers, one part time and the head teacher takes pupils for approximately 30% of the week.

The children in Class 1 (Infants – EYFS and KS1) are taught by Mrs McDonnell and she is assited by Mrs Carter and Mrs Hardy and Mrs Fraser. They all work together using the Creative Curriculum approach. The children in Class 2 (Juniors – Yr 3-6) are taught by Mrs Bevin, Mrs Oliver and Mr Clack and are assisted by Mrs Nichols and Mrs Simmonds during the day. The children in the juniors are split into Yr 3&4 and Yr 5&6 working groups each morning for Numeracy, Literacy and Science. They are split into smaller groups (Yr 3&4 and Yr 5&6) for most subjects in the afternoon.

We are very lucky to have a fairly spacious building for our children with an ICT area, library and kitchen for cooking etc… We have a nice cloakroom area for the KS2 children and a study room for small group work and revision. Our hall is quite small but is now only used for dining in and collective worship as we have a new classroom for the juniors to use which was opened in 2012. We can not do gym or PE in it so we walk down to the Village Hall in Great Ponton where we store our gym equipment and can use their lovely hall. We do have a big field with football goals and plenty of space for lots of outdoor sports. Our trim trail was opened in April 2007 and means we have even more things to play on and was added to in 2012. We had a rubber mulch path put all around the trim trail in 2014 so that the children have access to the equipment throughout the year. A new outdoor classroom was opened in 2010. The Reception children have a covered play area that means they can play outside all the time when they want to. The KS1 outdoor play area was extended in summer 2015 thanks to generous donations to the school through the hard work of our PTA. New outdoor gym equipment was added to the trim trail area in 2016 thanks to an Awards for All grant.

Our secure front entrance was opened in September 2009 and allows us to make better use of the current entrance area as well as converting our existing office into a staffroom. Our new fencing and gates in 2012 have made the grounds a very safe place. Pupils will continue to be able to use the kitchen for supported study work as well as cooking and design technology. Outside we have created a small gardening area for the pupils to grow vegetables and flowers and our willow bower has begun to form an effective shade from the sun during the summer months. We have carried out re-decoration during the past summer and the KS1 toilets had a bit of an upgrade.

Our plans for expansion in 2017 include a new hall and hopefully a new classroom working space. We converted all of our current lighting to LED lighting in Feb 2017 to make the school more energy efficient.

If you would like to visit our school please give us a call and we would be delighted to show you around.
