Reading & phonics info

Pupils in EYFS are taught using the Letters and Sounds scheme as recommended by the DfE. Children are challenged to complete a range of phases to ensure their phonetic skills are at the required level before the end of KS1. Intervention work with pupils that require additional support is put into action as soon as the class teacher feels it is necessary. Our school employs a number of very well trained classroom assistants who can work with small groups and individuals on a range of activities to promote better phonic awareness. These include IT programmes such as Phonics Play and Nessy Рboth of which the school subscribes to  and that way we can ensure our pupils have an opportunity to develop good phonic skills through a variety of different methods. Support for pupils can and does continue right through KS2 if necessary. If you want to know more about what we do to support phonics please ask.
