VISION

During the Summer Term of 2026, we undertook a comprehensive review of our school's vision and values. As a Church of England school, we wanted to ensure that our vision and values truly reflected who we are as a community, what we stand for and the aspirations we have for every child. To achieve this, we invited all stakeholders, including pupils, parents, staff and governors, to share their views and help shape the future direction of our school.

Following this consultation process, staff and governors carefully reviewed the feedback received. Together, they considered what was most important to our school community and how we could develop a vision and values that were meaningful, memorable and relevant to everyday life at Great Ponton. The result is a vision and set of values which we believe reflect the kind of community we want to be and the qualities we want every child to develop during their time with us.

Below is our vision which was created by the school community.

Our vision reminds us that success is not achieved alone. When we support, encourage and care for one another, we create a community in which everyone can thrive. We believe that every child should feel valued, supported and empowered to achieve their full potential, knowing they are part of a school family that learns, grows and flourishes together

Our Christian Values

To bring this vision to life, we have adopted four core values that will underpin all aspects of school life:

Courage, Compassion, Curiosity and Community

Curiosity

Curiosity is about being eager to learn, asking questions and wanting to discover new things. We want our pupils to develop a love of learning and an interest in the world around them.

In school, curiosity might be seen when children:

• Ask thoughtful questions to deepen their understanding.
• Explore new ideas and perspectives.
• Read widely and independently.
• Show enthusiasm for learning.
• Persevere in finding solutions to problems.
• Learn from others and share their own ideas.

By encouraging curiosity, we help children become lifelong learners who are confident in exploring new opportunities and challenges.

Courage

Courage means being brave, trying your best and persevering when things are difficult. It is about having the confidence to step outside your comfort zone, learn from mistakes and do the right thing, even when it is not always easy.

In school, courage might be seen when children:

• Attempt new challenges with a positive attitude.
• Share their ideas and opinions confidently.
• Learn from setbacks and keep trying.
• Stand up for what is right.
• Seek help when they need it.
• Support others to be brave and resilient.

Through courage, we help children develop the resilience and determination they need to succeed both in school and beyond.

Compassion

Compassion is about showing kindness, care and understanding towards others. We want every member of our community to feel valued, respected and supported.

In school, compassion might be seen when children:

• Help others when they are struggling.
• Listen carefully and show empathy.
• Include those who may feel left out.
• Use kind words and actions.
• Show patience and understanding.
• Forgive others and build positive relationships.

By developing compassion, we create a nurturing environment where everyone feels safe, cared for and able to flourish.

Community

Community reflects our belief that we are stronger when we work together. It is about belonging, supporting one another and taking collective responsibility for making our school a welcoming and successful place for all.

In school, community might be seen when children:

• Welcome and include others.
• Work collaboratively with their peers.
• Respect and celebrate differences.
• Care for the school environment.
• Support younger and older members of the school.
• Contribute positively to school life.

Community reminds us that everyone has a part to play in helping our school thrive and that together we can achieve far more than we could individually.

Living Our Vision and Values

Our vision and values are far more than words on a page. They will guide our curriculum, shape our relationships, underpin our behaviour expectations and influence the decisions we make as a school. We want every child to leave Great Ponton not only with strong academic foundations, but also with the curiosity to learn, the courage to persevere, the compassion to care for others and the understanding that they are an important part of a wider community.

RE INTENT

To inspire religious literacy in pupils; developing an understanding of how people of faith live, think and express their beliefs.

As a Church of England primary school within the Diocese of Lincoln, our values are rooted and grounded in the Christian faith. We work closely together to ensure that pupils not only develop their potential but also become responsible and self-motivated members of our community.

In everything we do, we strive for excellence; excellence within a Christian context. High expectations and equally high aspirations from all are key elements of life at our school. We seek to develop a caring Christian community in which we nurture individuals and encourage all to excel.

Our pupils are encouraged, challenged and praised so they feel confident in their abilities; know how to achieve their goals and experience success. We believe that a values based Christian education provides a firm foundation and that if we work hand-in-hand with parents, our children can achieve amazing things.
