Welcome to Class 2

Discovering, Exploring, and Creating This Autumn Term!

Welcome back to an exciting year of learning in Year 3/4! We have a fun-filled autumn term ahead with lots of engaging and hands-on activities. Get ready to explore, create, and discover the world around us!

Our Learning This Term

English

We’re diving into stories and poetry that spark imagination and creativity:

  • Poetry Competition: Writing Haiku poems on the theme of PLAY.
  • Class Reads: The Matchbox Diary and The Tin Forest will take us on journeys through memory, hope, and nature.
  • Guided Reading: The children will dive into The Wild Robot engaging in discussions to expand our understanding, fluency and comprehension skills.

Science

We have two exciting units this term:

  • Term 1: Rocks, fossils, and soils – exploring the Earth beneath our feet and uncovering its hidden treasures.
  • Term 2: How plants grow – investigating what plants need to thrive and watching nature come alive in our classrooms and gardens.

Geography

  • Volcanoes: What is special about volcanoes? We’ll discover the science behind volcanic eruptions and the fascinating landscapes they create.

History

  • Stone Age to Iron Age: What were the lives of nomadic hunter-gatherers like? We’ll step back in time to explore how early humans lived, worked, and survived.

Religious Education (RE)

We will be discovering how Hindus and Muslims religion affects the way they live by investigating the question ‘What do Hindus/ Muslims do to express their beliefs?

Art & Design

  • Craft and Design: Inspired by nature and fabrics, students will create beautiful, hands-on art projects.

Design & Technology (DT)

  • Construction: Building and designing models using problem-solving skills and creativity.

PE & Swimming

  • PE: Fun sessions in football and yoga, developing skills, fitness, and teamwork.
  • Swimming: All term, improving confidence and technique in the water.
  • PE Days: Mondays (Come in PE kit) and Tuesdays (swimming kit)

PSHE

Through our Jigsaw curriculum, we will explore:

  • Being Me in My World – understanding ourselves and our responsibilities.
  • Celebrating Differences – learning to respect and appreciate everyone’s uniqueness.

French

  • Animals: Learning key vocabulary and phrases in French through games and fun activities.

Computing

  • Animation, Logos, and Branching Databases: Developing creativity and digital skills while making stories, designing logos, and exploring data.

Music

  • Song of the Term: Lean on Me – singing, performing, and exploring the meaning behind the music.

Extras

We are very much looking forward to our trip to Grimsthorpe Castle’s Countryside day this term, as well as taking part in an Inspire+ netball development day, leading the school’s Harvest Festival celebrations at the church, celebrating Black History Month, UK Parliament week and much much more!

We’re looking forward to a fantastic term of learning, creativity, and discovery with Year 3/4!
