EYFS

Welcome to EYFS! Reception is a very special and important year and I can’t wait to see the children grow and progress throughout our time together. Here on our class page, you will find out about what we are doing in class as well as useful information and documents.

What have we been up to?

15th September – Outdoor Learning

We’ve had a lovely afternoon taking in our wonderful school grounds. The children drew some fantastic pictures of what they could see around them. The children have also loved making nature soup in our Mud Kitchen!

18th October 2021 – Dentist Visit

We had some very special visitors from the dentist this afternoon! The dental nurses talked to us all about how to look after our teeth and what food are good and bad for our teeth. We even got to dress up as dentists ourselves!!

21st October – Autumn Fun

This week, we have been learning all about Autumn. Here are some of the Autumn themed activities we have enjoyed doing so far!

4th November – Diwali

Today is Diwali and we have been learning all about it this week! We have enjoyed creating rangoli patterns as well as diva lamps. We discovered how lots of people around the world celebrate Diwali and some of their traditions including having a feast with family and friends and setting off fireworks.

15th November – Village Walk

We had a lovely afternoon on our village walk! We looked at the different features our village has including a church and a river. This week is also road safety week so we had a discussion about how to keep safe when walking near and crossing roads.

30th November – Library Visit

We had a wonderful afternoon at Grantham Library! The children enjoyed listening to stories and exploring all the different books. We learnt all about what the library is and how to borrow books. The children have all come home with a library card and a book that they have borrowed. They were all amazing and the library staff and bus driver commented on the behaviour of the children, they made me very proud!

8th December – Pyjama Day!

Today we had pyjama day which centred around our Once Upon a Time Topic. The children all brought in their favourite book from home and we read each one in class. We also made our own bookmarks, book reviews and designed our own book covers. We also enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies this afternoon! Both children and teachers have had a fantastic day.

17th December – Festive Fun

We have had so much fun getting stuck in to all things Christmassy. This week we have linked lots of our learning with Christmas and we have had so much fun! From wrapping presents, writing letters to Santa, making Christmas cards and so much more… The children are all working so hard and I am so proud of all of them. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year!

Topic:

We have a new topic each half term. Lots of our learning is linked to this topic, below you will find the overview of our learning for the current topic.

Autumn 1: All About Me

Autumn 2: Once Upon a Time

Spring 1: Past and Present

Spring 2: Space

Summer 1: Superheroes

Summer 2: Under the Sea

PE Days:

Our class PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. The children are to come to school in their PE kits.

Homework:

Homework in our class will begin from Tuesday 14th September. Homework in EYFS will be set out in the form of a grid of activities that is set at the beginning of each half term. These activities will relate to our topic and the key areas of learning. We ask that one starred (*) activity of your choice is completed each week. Depending on the activity, this can be handed in through photos and/or a description on Dojo or the children can complete the activity in their homework book and bring this into school. An activity is expected to be handed in by every Monday. We aim to make these activities as practical, creative and hands on as possible!

Phonics homework will also be set each week. The purpose of this is to consolidate the knowledge and sounds the children have learnt in class. Phonics homework is expected to be completed in the children’s homework book each week. This will be set every Tuesday and is expected in every Monday.

We will also begin to send home reading books on Tuesday 14th September. All children will start with picture books. We encourage you to look through these with your child and talk about what is happening on each page as well as what they think might happen next! The children can then bring their books into school when they are finished and they will be changed. Books can be brought in and changed on any day and as often as required. We do ask that the children read at least 3 times a week.
