Dear Parents and Carers,
Re. Remote Learning at Great Ponton C.E. School
Today, the staff has been working to finalise a strategy for delivering the government’s Remote Learning Continuity Directive. I am delighted to be able to share with you the plan that we will put in place from tomorrow, Wednesday 6th January.
The school understands that each family’s circumstances and their access to learning material for their children differs, and that the responsibility to provide educational support at home can be difficult for families. With these challenges in mind, we have endeavoured to select platforms for delivering remote learning that are as accessible and child friendly as possible, to allow you and your child the best chance of success. It is extremely important that pupils remain engaged with learning, even when they are not attending the school site to ensure they are not missing out on vital education; we want to make this as straightforward as possible.
The school has arranged for pupils to access learning material remotely via online learning portals (Microsoft Teams and Class Dojo). To ensure pupils continue to receive a high-quality education outside of school, the school will monitor pupils’ attendance and their engagement with remote learning in line with our Attendance Policy and the Remote and Blended Learning Policy. Pupils who do not attend remote learning sessions or who do not complete tasks adequately are at risk of falling behind their peers and may struggle with lesson content when they return to school.
The following remote learning arrangements are in place to ensure that all pupils have access to education at home:
Remote learning will be accessed using Microsoft Teams, teachers will email ‘invites’ to the children which they will be required to accept. There is a timetable showing the expectations for all live lessons (see below). The children will be required to log in to TEAMs using their school email address and then partake in the 15/20mins live lesson and then complete the follow up task. The teachers will instruct the children whether they will need the microphone and camera on or off for each lesson. Pupils will view ‘live’ lessons for English, Maths and Science, and related activities will be posted for them to respond to. Other subjects will be posted on Class Dojo and below, using the topic boxes, as used before the summer holidays. Teachers will continue to communicate with parents and carers using Class Dojo and will post a weekly timetable by the Sunday evening for the week ahead. All completed work should be uploaded to the class teacher via Class Dojo. All worksheets can be found on the class pages.
We advise all parents to make every effort to ensure that their child has access to and completes any learning material provided. Should your child be unable to access the learning material, please contact your child’s teacher via Class Dojo as soon as possible. If your child is unwell and is unable to attend remote learning sessions, please inform the school office by no later than 8:45am, or as soon as possible should your child become unwell during the school day.
Children who are attending school under the Critical worker and vulnerable provision will be participating in the same way as those children at home.
If, for any reason, you anticipate difficulties with accessing remote learning arrangements, please do not hesitate to contact the school to discuss alternative arrangements.
Take care of yourselves,
I hope you are all safe and well. Best wishes to you all.
Mr K Leader
